Jakarta Public Transportation No Longer Requires Passengers to Wear Masks

Passengers are no longer required to wear masks while traveling via public transportation in Jakarta. It is in connection with the issuance of Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Circular Letter Number 26/SE/2023 on Appeals for Implementation of Health Protocols in Public Transportation Facilities and Infrastructure during Transition Period towards Endemic.

Passengers are allowed not to wear masks in the fleet if they are in good health

Jakarta Transportation Agency Head, Syafrin Liputo said seeing that the development of control over Covid-19 is getting better, people who use public transportation such as Transjakarta, MRT, and LRT are allowed not to use masks in fleets or facilities.

This policy was also based on high public immunity, as well as the results of cross-sectoral evaluations of Covid-19 control.

"Passengers are allowed not to wear masks in the fleet if they are in good health and are not at risk of contracting or transmitting Covid-19. It is in accordance with the entry into force of the Circular Letter starting June 9, 2023," he expressed, Sunday (6/11).

Even so passengers using public transport still try to protect themselves personally from the transmission of Covid-19. If they in question feels unwell, it is recommended to continue to wear a mask.

"With the publication and entry into force of this circular letter, we officially revoke the circular letter for obligation to wear masks in public transportation during the Transitional Period towards Endemic," he stressed.

Here are the matters conveyed by Transportation Agency Head through his circular letter:

1. All passenges in Jakarta are still trying to protect themselves personally from the transmission of Covid-19:

a. It is recommended to continue carrying out Covid-19 vaccination until second booster or fourth dose, especially for people who have a high risk of transmitting Covid-19

b. It is permissible not to wear a mask if in good health and not at risk of contracting or transmitting Covid-19 and it is advisable to continue to use a mask that is properly covered if in an unhealthy condition or at risk of Covid-19 before and when traveling and activities in public facilities

c. It is advisable to carry hand sanitizer and/or use soap and running water to wash your hands regularly, especially if you have come into contact with objects that are used together

d. For people who are unwell and at risk of contracting or transmitting Covid-19, it is recommended to keep a distance or avoid crowds of people to prevent transmission of Covid-19

e. It is recommended to keep using the SATUSEHAT application to monitor personal health

2. All Operators and Managers of Transportation Facilities in Jakarta are encouraged to:

a. Participate in protecting the community through preventive and promotive efforts to control the transmission of Covid-19

b. Participate in supervising, coaching, controlling, and enforcing implementation of health protocols to control the transmission of Covid-19

c. Providing a place to wash hands with soap and/or hand sanitizer in the area/area of transportation facilities/infrastructure and in public transportation
